During the extraction of teeth, some can break to the level of the gum (or below). These if left might cause infection which can spread further into adjacent structure. In order to remove them, a surgical extraction is required which might involve cutting the gum and removal of bone around the tooth.
What happen during the procedure?
The procedure will usually be performed under local anaesthetic so patients will not feel pain while having the procedure.
What can be expected after the operation?
- Pain which is controlled by analgesics such as ibuprofen and paracetamol.
- Swelling which may vary depending on the complexity of the case.
- Bleeding which may necessitate suturing.
- Possible postoperative infection requiring additional treatment.
